Honorable Mention
The Winter Wind
M. Kathryn Black

...blows naked over dry grass,
screams through doors,
cries woefully through window panes.

She stabs the eye yet keeps it whole,
pierces the nose yet leaves no ornament,
whistles shrilly in our ears,
flays our lips.

She seeks out vulnerabilities and finds them,
makes animals and human beings restive,
pulls hair with icy fingers,
doesn't care who she undresses.

Yet she plays with tree boughs,
tugs at bird tails,
dances with each perfect flake of snow.
